Locked for editing by me

excel 2003

Hi, i work for a company where we store files on the server and all access it so we can all use them. Now, for some reason excel keeps giving me an error saying "File is locked for editing by acc1". I am acc1 and i do not have it open, my computer was even shut down last night and it is still doing it today. I have made temporary resolution so i can continue to work by making copies however as soon as i exit the copies and try to go into them i have to make a new copy as the same thing happens. This is resulting in many copies of the same file all of which cannot be deleted as they are supposedly "in use".

To be honest if there is a fix for this without poking around on the server it would be great but there is no IT department here so if i were to do anything wrong it'd be on my head.

Try doing ctrl + alt + del and go to your task manager. See what is running on the process tab. This has happend to me before and when i ended the process it seemed to work. You can click the "image name" column to sort a-z and look for all instinces of excel running.
