Locked Out, Help!

I have an Excel Workbook that is a production schedule. It is password protected. Several times a week when I try to access the workbook I get a message box that says it is locked for editing by me and won't allow me access. After several hours it will finally "unlock" and allow me to enter my password. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I am truly confused and would appreciate any help I can get with this. Thanks.

It just happens sometimes. Usually when you restart your computer without closing out of excel, or if excel is just being annoying. Usually if you hit "notify" when that comes up it will kick yourself out. You can also go into the directory and find the ~ file. Deleting the ~[filename] can help clear up the temp file.
