how do you remove the dollar sign from a link.

See example,

='[Mat Leave Summary.xls]Mar 2009'!$P$23

All of a sudden, all my formulas have this dollar sign in the equation?

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
That happens when you link to an external workbook. When you're entering the formula, you can hit F4 on this part $P$23 to toggle absolute references.

For exisitng formulas you can use Find & Replace. Find-->$ Relace with nothing.
