Looking up data with formulas

Hello,

I am currently using a slightly more detailed version of this formula to look up numerical figures in my spreadsheet. =INDEX($A$2:$A$4,MATCH(A6,$B2:$B4,0)).

Is it possible to set it up so that once a value has been returned into the appropriate cell only the value remains and the formula is no longer applicable to that cell? I am going to have slightly varied versions of the above formula in many rows and columns which is making my spreadsheet go very slowly as the formulas are constantly recalculating. However once a figure has been returned I no longer need the formula for that cell...

I hope that is clear? Can anyone advise the best way to tackle this please?

Thank you
