lookup and compare two sheets data!

I am trying to achieve the following without much success i have tried match,and,ifs, vlookup but i cannot tie it all together etc ! ahh

Basically i have two sheets and i want to compare between them and extract a number from next column.

Cell x = i want to lookup value on sheet2 d2 that matches value on sheet1 column e:e , if match found i need to check if sheet2 e2 matches number in next column on same row as found in lookup on sheet1, if same cell x = sheet1 column h on same row found using lookup?

I think this is a classic example where it would probably be most helpful if you could show us some examples, showing us samples of your two data files and expected results.

MrExcel has a tool called “XL2BB” that lets you post samples of your data that will allow us to copy/paste it to our Excel spreadsheets, so we can work with the same copy of data that you are. Instructions on using this tool can be found here: XL2BB Add-in

Note that there is also a "Test Here” forum on this board. This is a place where you can test using this tool (or any other posting techniques that you want to test) before trying to use those tools in your actual posts.
