Losing Focus on Cell

Hi,

When working on different spreadsheets, I sometimes have to alt-tab to other windows to, for instance, remember the next part of a number I'm entering into a cell.

Sometimes I can do this and carry on typing, other times, when I tab back to Excel, the data I was in the middle of entering has been entered so I have to edit the cell to carry on entering the data.

Where can I change this option, presuming there is one? :)

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Not trying to be silly _but_ why can't you copy the data from the original app then click / move to a cell and then paste data in?

I've done it heaps of times myself.

regards

dave.

ps and this is from a SUN OS via emulation on winxp to excel 2003!

Hi Mark

You can do this if you're entering a formula (ie cell starts with =) but if it is simply text you're enetering then the cell will lose focus and the text will be entered. I don't think there is a setting to amend this.

Thanks for the replies - I'll have to have a closer look into it - and the reason why I can't copy it is because sometimes the number or text may be in an image for example, or on an iSeries.
