Losing original value in cell

Here are the details.
I have a number in a cell "2.545894".
When I use the decrease decimal function once, the cell now read "2.54589" but in the formula bar it displays "2.54589" instead of the original number "2.54894".

When I increase the decimal once, the cell now reads "2.545890" instead of the original number and the formula bar also displays "2.545890" instead of the orginal number.

If I were to decrease and then increase the decimal by two, it would read in the cell and formularr bar as "2.545800".

It is not only losing the original value of the cell. It is replacing it with zeros.

I check the format of the cells but everything looks pretty straightforward.

Excel Facts

Ambidextrous Undo
Undo last command with Ctrl+Z or Alt+Backspace. If you use the Undo icon in the QAT, open the drop-down arrow to undo up to 100 steps.
Check whether "Precision as Displayed" is selected. Where you find this setting depends on your version of Excel but it is in Excel Options.

Thanks VoG! the Precision as Displayed was checked off. I uncheck it and now it's working properly. Thanks again!
