guys and girls i need the simple macro command to select the cell below i.e. one cell down

thanks a lot everyone (in advance) :biggrin:

If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.

but why do you want to select - it is very rare to have to select something in order to work with it. Selecting slows your code down.
