Mail merge

I am trying to do a mail merge with a list made in excel. The number format 12345.6789
When I do the mail merge with word it changes things the number could be right, the next one could missing or could be about 12 digits to right of decimal. Anyone know how I could fix this. I am trying to use switches in word but can't seem to find the right one.
