Do you have any suggestions on making Excel files more compact? I have one that is pushing 10MB and it takes a long time to save because of the data contained within it. I update it each day with new data. Thanks in advance! :)

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Personally, I keep my workbooks very small and therefore usable. However, not knowing the details of your particular situation, I can't really advise you on exactly what to do. Unless you need ALL of your data ALL of the time there is no good reason to use the same workbook for data entry and storage. Provide more details or zip and mail your workbook with an explanation.

Over time, you may find you can either

a] atchive some of your data, or

b] convert some [older/not-to-change-again] formula-driven cells to their values, or

c] convert formulas to macro routines.

OP: If you could post back about the features of your file, that would really help us to diagnose it better.

For example,

1. If there a lot of drawings, pictures or images in the file, that would explain it.

2. If you have pivot tables in the file, that could be another culprit.

3. If you have deleted data by selecting the rows and merely pressing the delete key, that would explain another issue.
