How do I make a few variables for public use by many user defined functions in VBA?

Declare them as Public at the start of the module, before any proceedure.

BUT, it can be treacherous for UDF's to depend on outside variables. What routine would make the initial calculation of those public variables?

What do you want the UDF's to do?
