manual input in data validation

Is it possible to set up data validation cells so it also allows manual input of data as well as the drop down list. I don't want to restrict what can be entered just make it faster by using the list to input the most common items. When an uncommon item is encountered I want to be able to just type it into the cell and have the cell accept that input.

when you set up the list in data validation there is also a tab for error

select this tab and remove the show error alert x
