Col 1 Col 2 Match
111111 00000111111 Y
222222 00000222222 Y
233444 00000356455 N

what is the formula to get the Y and N in the match field?

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
Could you confirm if any of the numbers are in TEXT format?

Also, would there always be 5 leading 0's?

Actually try this in C1 to assess values in A1 & A2

C1 and copy down

=IF(VALUE(B1)=A1,"Y","N")

This will work even if the values in Column B are are in TEXT
