Match & Count

I have a specific group of 12 names on the right hand side of my spread sheet. I also have a much larger list of names on the left side. I want excel to tell me how many times each name from the specifiv 12 names on the right also appear in the long list on the left side.

For example, if "Charles" is one of the specif names on the right hand side.....I want excel to go thru the long list on the left side and tell me how times that name appears on the left.

You could do it like this:

1	Longlist		Shortlist	Count

5	Peter		Peter	2

9	Jim
10	Tom
11	Jim

Sheet4

Formula in D2 (copied down the column) is:
=COUNTIF($A$2:$A$14,C2)
