Maximun number of names

I am working with a workbook that uses bookmarks to pull data across from excel to word. At this time I have 3,461 names in the workbook. When I define additional names, and reach the 3,540th name, I get an "Malformed Bookmark" error in the program I am using to merge the data (ReportBuilder Pro, proprietary commercial appraisal software). I think that this error is specific to the RB software, but no one there can tell me what it means. (The original developers are no longer working there.)

Is it possible that I have reached the max. number of names? I am using a Win7 Pro machine, i5, 8G ram. Working in Excel 2010, but the worksheet is compatible for 2003.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks, Jim.

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
I saw the info on memory and names, but didn't know if there was a formula to estimate the number based on memory. I have appx. 3.9G available with the program running.

The name is automatically generated from the host program.
