Merged cells using drop-down list not filling correctly

I've merged cells D10 to E12 and want it to show a temperature from a drop-down list, conditionally formatted to fill red, amber or green accordingly. The issue is that only the top row (D10 and D11) of the merged cells change colour whereas I want all six merged cells to reflect the change.

Pics here - sorry I could only upload to my brewery website!

Also, I've formatted the six merged cells to show the figure as degrees Celsius but when I choose zero from the list I just get degrees Celsius...

I'm not VBA experienced so simple solutions would be preferred but happy to try anything

Cheers

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Hi and welcome to the board.
I suggest you rid yourself of the merged cells completely.

The formula you have in D10 to give you the value of -2 will only apply to D10, while the merged process will display it over the merged range.

D10 is the "base" cell and D11 and D12 are the "showmanship" cells.

Maybe put your D10 formula in D11 & 12 also and it looks like you will get the effect you want, except you will have -2 in three cells.

Merged cells in a chart or table are only going to give you headaches. Trouble shooting can be a nightmare also.
