Microsoft Excel Change Source Slowdown

We have users that are trying to change links using the change source , these Excel XP Files are between 1.2mg to 5mb in size. When the click on Change Source it takes excel up to 5 minutes to respond back with the change. The Files are on a Windows 2000 Share.

Any ideas? Thanks
