Misbehaving *.xla or is it me?

I downloaded a fabulous addin and fired it up from a zipped file in a local directory but it did not show in the Tools Addins list where I could turn it on or off.

So, instead of browsing for it, I
1.copied it to the microsoft addins directory and
2.deleted the zipped version.
I now know that I should have exited and restarted Excel to update the Tools Addins list.

I now have two entries on the Tools Addins one that works fine and one it cannot find so every time I launch Excel I get the message...

""original downloaded to path\[addin].xla" could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file location is correct."

In all the reading I have done since, I have discoveredf the number of errors I have made, but not one has told me how to fix this problem and remove the cause of the error message and the duplicate Tools Addin listing other than to unload it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Waterfall charts in Excel?
Office 365 customers have access to Waterfall charts since late 2016. They were added to Excel 2019.
Delete all veresions of your addin to start.

Then goto Excel, Tools>Addins, and uncheck the addins. YOu should get a message saying it can't find those addins, should it delete the entry. Say yes.

Then start again installing it.

Thank you for those references.

I took your advice and pasted a copy to my memory stick (and unplugged it) then deleted all the copies and all the issues went away.

I reloaded the xla to the appropriate directory and it is behaving beautifully.

Thank you for your assistance.
