Missing CrossHair

Although the Fill Handle appears - my mouse icon will not display the crosshairs necessary to use the fill handle functions. So I have the "Drag and Drop" option checked but the funcitonality is missing.
In addition I cannot "grab" formula borders to change formual references with the mouse. I have checked the mouse settings in control panel and everything seems fine. I have even used a different mouse with the same result.

This is perplexing and increasingly frustrating.

Thanks,
Doug

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
An IT guy here says that When docking and undocking laptops mouse drivers can be corrupted and can behave erratically. He re-installed my mouse drivers and I have my crosshair funtionality back. This was a very subtle manifestation of corrupted mouse driver - so I hope this might be of use to someone in the future.
