missing data in shared spreadsheet

I have an Excel 97 spreadsheet that's shared, so that more than one person can edit it at a time. In the past few weeks, I've gotten complaints from more than one user that the data they've entered disappeared a day or two after they entered it.

What could be going wrong? Any ideas?

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Isn't there a Change trail to audit?

I suspect a new user that isn't the most expert. Maybe you need to publicize the Undo feature, so when somebody makes a boo boo, they can undo it.

Have you had a trawl through the change history log (Tools- Track Changes- check the List changes on a new sheet box)? It might be that another user has (accidentally) deleted or overwritten the original entries.

Thanks for the suggestions. The revision log shows that the users never put the data into the spreadsheet. I suspected that the users aren't saving the spreadsheet, but they both swear that they're doing so.

I don't think these guys are hallucinating. Anybody else got any suggestions?

Have you searched for duplicate files on their machines, rather than the server? Could they be saving them somewhere else?
