modifying costume formatting code

Hi
I would like to format like following

1000 --> 1k
1500 --> 1.50k
2000 -->2k
2300 --> 2.30k
2540 --> 2.54K
3000 --> 3k

I tried ##.##,"K" and #.00,"k" but the prblem is with 1000, 2000, 3000 , etc I want them like 1k 2k 3k not like 1. k or 1.00k is that possible? Thank you very much
