Current=month(date)
Why doesn't this calculate as 8?

Instead when i msgbox it, it returns value 1/7/1900

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
This returns 8 at the date of posting

Code:
Sub etest()
Dim Current As Long
Current = Month(Date)
MsgBox Current
End Sub

Format Current as Long instead of Date.

Oh ok, yeah i had it as date. Now it works, thanks. What is different about long that makes it work?

Dates are stored as numbers, specifically the number of days since 1/0/1900, I think. So you value was really correctly returning the value of 8, formatted as a date.
