I am trying to program a cell to return the number of months left in a year, based on a certain date.

For example: assume cell A1 contains "Oct-02"

I want to set up cell B1 to return "2" by using a formula that references cell A1.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
hi

set format property of B1 as "general".
in b1 enter the formula below

=12 - MONTH(A1)

right click on cell a1 go to format cells select date, and then pick the format you want

then in b1 type "=a1" no quotes
right click on it go to format, pick custom and put= "mm" no quotes

there you go

post back if this doesnt work out
