Monthly Barchart Using Conditional Formatting

Hello All,
I have seen several examples of Excel barcharts for both daily and hourly timescales which Mike created using conditional formatting to automatically colour the cells below the timescale and was wondering if anyone can help me with the formula I would need if a monthly timescale was to be used.

The problem I am having with the formula is that the monthly timescale values begin with the first day of each month, eg 1-Jan, 1-Feb, 1-Mar etc., but, each activity can start and finish on any day within the month.

For example, Activity A starts on 15-Jan-11 and Finishes on 19-Apr-11, so I need to show the cells below the months of Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr automatically coloured using conditional formatting.

The monthly cell needs to be coloured if the start or finish is within the month or if the start and finish span the month.

I hope I have explained my problem clearly and would appreciate any help anyone can give.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Kind Regards
Alan
