I am changing the name of an EXCEL 2007 workbook ('A.xls' to 'AB.xls') and then changing its location to another folder.
I then am creating another workbook with the original name ('A.xls) and placing it in the original folder.
Very simple and routine.

I have a desktop shortcut pointed to the 'A.xls'workbook in the original folder.
When the 1st or old wb is renamed and moved the shortcut continues to point to it even though the wb has been renamed.

It is a shared folder on a network drive. I can manually change the path within my shortcut so that it points to the new folder but how can I be sure that other users shortcuts are pointed to t he correct file (wb)?

Is there a way to rename and/or move an EXCEL wb so that the shortcuts don't point to the old (mooved/renamed) file?

Thanks,

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
This is the 'gotcha' that got me:

The old wb 'A.xls' was moved to the new location before it was renamed.

When both the new and the old workbooks were renamed (first) in the original folder before moving the old wb to a different location the integrity of the shortcut was maintained. The shortcuts path and file name was preserved.

Many thanks to all those who viewed this problem,
