Moving Decimal Places...

Hey everybody,

I've been trying to figure out how to convert, lets say 177.23 cents per pound to 1.7723 dollars per pound....This involves moving the decimal place, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have about 92 values all pasted and transposed into a column. They are all in cents, and I need it converted to dollars. I don't want to move the decimal place manually for each cell...(Hope this doesn't sound idiotic!) Thanks!

Excel Facts

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
Hello and welcome

you can use this formula in the next column,
if 177.23 is in a1 then in b1 put

=a1/100

easy ?

Great! Well, that was simple enough (duh)... In the next column, I wrote =A1/100 , then just dragged it down, as it converted all the other numbers. I still got some learning to do...Thanks for your help!

also :

put 100 in a spare cell

copy it

highlight your range of big numbers

paste / special / divide

it'll divide the whole range by 100 in one go

delete the cell with 100 in it

(you can mentally remember that there are 4 options for this : divide, multiply, add and subtract..... for another day!)

For LHS, u can use
=int(A1)
For RHS, u can use
=A1-int(A1)
