MSQuery and dynamic parameters (array)

I need to set up an MS Query that uses dynamic parameters from cells in a spreadsheet. Most are not a problem, but the user always wants the record selection to be a subset of the customers, based on the specific customer ID numbers.

I have set up a Criteria and entered a parameter so that it says in the Value box

In ({Please enter the customer ID's]}

However, when I assign that to a cell in a spreadsheet it doesn't seem to recognize the cell contents when I enter

5299;5686

or 5299,5686

Can this be done or am I going at this wrong? There may be ultimately up to a dozen customer ID's at any one time.
