multiple countif function

Some help please.....
I have in column A dates, In column B I have some user_names which vary between 5 individuals.
What I need is the count for each user_name date wise...
Eg User_1 06-sep 5
07-sep 4
08-sep 2
This essentially is to check how many times a user name has appeared on a daily basis....

A formula-based option...

Create a unique vertical list of dates in D from D2 on, using Advanced Filter for example.

Create a unique horizontal list of users in row 1 from E1 on.

In E2 enter and copy across then down:

=SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$100=$D2)*($B$2:$B$100=E$1))
