I've been searching the board, but must not be using the right / best search terms. I want to sum the values in column B, based on any numeric / alphanumeric values in column A that have a "-" (i.e. dash or hyphen) in them. Sample column A values: 10-428M or 521-1366.

I'm assuming SUMPRODUCT might work, but can't come up with how to 'search' for the hyphen, and then incorporate that into the formula.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi,

Something like the below:

<b>Excel 2007</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";background-color: #FFFFFF;border: 1px solid;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><colgroup><col width="25px" style="background-color: #E0E0F0" /><col /><col /><col /></colgroup><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;text-align: center;color: #161120"><th></th><th>A</th><th>B</th><th>C</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">1</td><td style=";">7685-645</td><td style="text-align: right;;">3</td><td style="text-align: right;;">8</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">2</td><td style=";">m34-eudj3</td><td style="text-align: right;;">5</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td></tr></tbody></table><p style="width:3.6em;font-weight:bold;margin:0;padding:0.2em 0.6em 0.2em 0.5em;border: 1px solid #A6AAB6;border-top:none;text-align: center;background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120">Sheet1</p><br /><br /><table width="85%" cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";border: 2px solid black;border-collapse:collapse;padding: 0.4em;background-color: #FFFFFF" ><tr><td style="padding:6px" ><b>Worksheet Formulas</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" width="100%" rules="all" style="border: 1px solid;text-align:center;background-color: #FFFFFF;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120"><th width="10px">Cell</th><th style="text-align:left;padding-left:5px;">Formula</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><th width="10px" style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120">C1</th><td style="text-align:left">=SUMPRODUCT(<font color="Blue">--(<font color="Red">(<font color="Green">A1:A2="*-*"</font>)--(<font color="Green">B1:B2</font>)</font>)</font>)</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></table><br />

Thanks for your reply, crook. I copied the formula, as is, but it sums ALL the values in column B, even those without a hyphen. Any thoughts??
