Stuck :(

I have a table, range (c4:bl8)

c4:bl4 (merged cells into pairs) contains dates of month (01,02,03, 04 etc)

c5:bl5 contains data

c6:bl8 contains a code and value (shortened snapshot below)

C D E F G H I J
4 01 02 03 04
5 n n d d
6 DEP 12.0 LVE 12.0 LVE 12.0 DEP 12.0
7 OT 12.0 OT 12.0

AND CELL BS11 A DATE, "03/01/2014"

I am trying to SUM "DEP" values splitting them into before (in cell a1) and after (in cell a2) the date 03/01/14 into differenct cells
I've tried
SUMIF,
SUM(if(....
SUMPRODUCT

but cannot get them to work.

I can't use SUMIFS (using XL 2003) and I cannot load add-ins (the IT dept have banned them)

hope what I mean is follow-able! any help appreciated. thanks!
