Multiple Sumifs

The following is my situation:
MONDAY TUESDAY ... TOTAL
A B C D E(Read)
Read 5 Read 10 30
Write 10 Read 5
Read 10 Write 5

In the above, for each day, one can note how minutes were spent either reading or writing (and things can occur multiple times). I need to be able to sum all of the minutes next to those that say "Read" for the entire week into a single sell in the Totals column.

I have tried Sumif, which cannot seem to add across multiple columns.

Any help would be great!

Let's assume this is your data in the range A2:F4

I need the formula to sum #s in column B AND column F if it says "1:1 Lit" in the corresponding cell in column A or column E. You can ignore the 2nd two columns for each category. So in this case, in a new Totals column, it should have "75" for "1:1 Lit".

Thank you!

Still the same...

With your data in the range A2:H4...

=SUMIF(A2:E4,"1:1 Lit",B2:F4)

Returns 75

In the formula note how the ranges are offset.

I can post a sample file so you can see that this does in fact return the correct result if you'd like.

This is weird. I just re-created the data in a different sheet, applied your formula, and it worked! In the original sheet, it won't. It doesn't even return an error, it just returns the formula itself.

That usually means the cell that contains the formula is formatted as TEXT.

Change the cell format to General then re-enter the formula.
