I have a question about making something Multiuser, and I tried to find the answer using the search on here. I did not find exactly what I was looking for but found some hints to get me started, so I wanted to make sure I understand it completely before I set it in motion.
I created a spreadsheet to help students track data, and I will need mulitple students to use the SS, hopefully at one time so I do not have to have one student inputting data then another and another.
There is a place on our school network that houses all of the students "folders" where they can save things for class. Would it be possible for me to create a folder on this network drive and hide the excel SS in it? If I do this how do I get all of the students to have access to the SS so they can input data in as needed?
Thanks, Brown

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Hi,
so this sheet is shared? what do you mean by "hide" the sheet? they need to be able to open it and access it on the network

OK, I guess I am not really sure how it works. I am not allowing every student in the school access to the spread sheet that is why I said hide it on the network drive.
Is it possible to give every student a copy of the sheet and have them save it to their portion of the network (where the sheet will reside) and it do what I am asking with mulitple users?

I am sorry to be so unclear, I just am not sure what I am trying to convey since I am not sure how this works.
Thanks

if I email it to them will I be able to do the multiple user thing I am wanting to do? I ultimately need all of the data on one sheet so it will compile everything.

No, you'd have to save all replies of the students to a folder and then open them in turn to get the data from them.

If you insist on doing this multi-user with Excel, then students may easily see each other's answers.

If you setup the questionaire workbook so that the answers are all in a single row on a (hidden) worksheet, then importing them into one file takes only a small macro.

they are not answers, it is just data, and it is not a problem for them to see the other person's data.

You could also put a workbook up on skydrive (part of Microsoft Live, which is free) and only invite the students you want to have access to it.
They can then edit the workbook on-line with the Excel web application, which has good multi-user capabilities.
You may have to create the workbook online too, as it requires the file to be in Excel 2007/2010 format.

Thanks I will look into these suggestions and might have to get back to you on some things.
If I cannot get it to be a multiuser document I will have to get each student to come to the computer to input their data each time we update, just time consuming but doable.
