Like everybody else on here, I'm trying to create a spreadsheet to simplify things... The problem is, that creating the spreadsheet is hard!

I'm going to have two columns: A Category (Column A) and a Sub-Category (column B) column. In a perfect world, I would be able to populate data in column B differently depending on the answer in Category A.

For example: If the Category was Bedding, the Subcat could be Comforter, Bedspreads, Blankets, etc. However, if the category is Bath, then the Subcat would be Towels, Rugs, Accessories, etc.

Is it possible to achieve this with the "Name Manager" function? The trick is, there are specific values that need to be in Column B and I don't want to have to sort through 100+ values when each category only has +/- 6. Does this make sence?

Back into an answer in Excel
Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
you could try using a combobox to select the first catagory which could then selectively populate the sub cat column....

Good news! I got it to work -- sort of...

I used the Data Validation to limit the attribute of each category appropriately. However, each category has more than one attribute...

I used the INDIRECT function to point to the title of the category and this attached to the title in the name manager. However, my problem comes when I want to use the same category for a different attribute - I can't repeat the title (to pull data from) in the name manager.

I'm afraid I'm not making total sense -- to be honest, I don't totally understand it myself...

Any help you can offer will be hugely appreciated!

Thanks,

-Jeff
