I have a file that has a few links where the data comes from (but those source files are not open when I open the main file) and when I open the main file in Excel 2007, I see actual data/numbers, as I would expect to see. When I open the same file in Excel 2003, the same rows that should show data only show #NAME? messages.

Is this common when using a file created in 2007 but opened in 2003?

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
It sounds like your formulas are using Functions from the Analysis ToolPak, which is resident in Excel 2007, but not 2003. Try Tools>Add-ins and activate the Analysis ToolPak

it is probably because there is a formula with either a UDF or analysis toolpak functions. Make sure that you have the analysis tookpak add-in turned on in both versions. Otherwise check for UDF's in one versus the other

That worked. Except it either created a new problem, or this new problem always existed but I didn't know it until now.

I have another file that links to the aforementioned file. Now, when I open this new file WITHOUT opening the aforementioned file, all I see is #VALUE! messages. When I originally created this 3 weeks ago, I didn't have this problem.

Any ideas?
