Need assistance w/ Alphanumerical Function...

Thank you for taking the time to help me. I'm trying to use a function which will look at a n alphanumeric string and return a specific word. For example, =search("912*", H2,"test")...By using this function it requires me to return a number and not the word test. Should I use and if function?

Please know that I will need a nested if which will look for unique strings and return test, test1 and test2.

Thank you.

What if I made 313 equal to test2?

=IF(OR(SEARCH("912", H2)>0,SEARCH("313", H2)>0),"test")

Rather than add extra changes each time someone offers a solution, plan out exactly what you want to do first otherwise we'll be here all day.

Can you post a few examples of the input strings and the results you want from each.
