Need formula help

If I want to use "x"'s in a field but need to be able to count them, how would that formula look? Let's say the fields looked like this:

Staff A B C D
Name 1 x
Name 2 x
Name 3 x
Name 4 x
Name 5 x
Name 6 x


and on another sheet I will have this:

A B C D
Totals

Is this what you mean?

=COUNTIF(C2:C7,"x")

Take a look at COUNTIF().

I.E. =COUNTIF(A:A,"x")
