I am trying to count the number of instances a value is greater than 500. My first column has account numbers, the second has check serial numbers and the third has the dollar amounts. I want to count how many checks are greater than 500 for each account. I have given the account column a range name called DECACCT and I have given the amount column a range name called DECAMT. Please help me figure this out.

Excel Facts

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"

What version of Excel are you using?

I am using Excel 2003.
OK, try this...

A1 = some account number

=SUMPRODUCT(--(DECACCT=A1),--(DECAMT>500))

Note that with SUMPRODUCT you *can't* use entire columns as range references in Excel versions prior to Excel 2007.

That didn't work for me but this did...

=SUMPRODUCT((DECACCT="any account#")*(DECAMT>500))

remove the quotations and enter the account number and this worked for me.
