I never use access and find my self in a situation where I need to build a very simple database but have no idea how. I have tried some of the wizards but since I have no idea what I am doing I am completely lost. Can someone point me in a direction to start learning.

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
what do you need the database to do?

probably will need some tables and queries. the table setup is very similar to putting data in a spreadsheet. the queries...well, depends on what you need.

I am goning to be tracking orders. So I just need to have order numbers and a few other fields. But I need it to be accessable be several people, and am wanting to use a userform for the input. But I am completely lost on how to go about doing this.

establish your table structure first (how many tables, the data in each).

will they be entering order info or query only?

I have no idea what the difference is. I just want to build a list of data. Then possibly add some extra information to it later.

If this project is related to this question you made over in the Excel forum:
http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378369
then you will probably also want to "split" your final into a back-end (which holds the data) and separate front-ends for users. This helps prevent corruption and other issues in databases that are used by multiple members simulataneously.

Splitting a database is very easy to do (there is a Wizard) and you should be able to find a write-up on it in Access help (can also find articles on the web about, if you so desire).

I believe that I have a start but have some questions. To make these earier on people when they open the database I have created a form to use to input the information. Is there a way to only make this visible when the database is open, via macro or some other means.

From the Tools menu, select Startup, then in the Display Form/Page box, select the name of the Form you want to open up when the database is opened.
