my excel knowledge is pretty basic, and i looked around on google to try to find the answer but couldnt, so here i go...

ok im making a list of poker sessions in excel to keep track of wins, losses, etc. i have a daily entry, how much i won or lost. this is all in a table. i put in the date in the first column "DATE". then i manually write in the day of the week, thursday, friday saturday etc, in a column called "DAY". then i have a couple more columns, one is EARLY for early games, one is LATE for late games, then a sum of early and late called RESULT. result is the important column.

now it is easy for me to do a big sum of all the result column, to find out how much i have won or lost. but i want to do a specific breakdown by tday of the week. this is why i created the "DAY" column.
i need a formula to recognize the day of the week, and then sum the "RESULT" column. so all the thursdays results can be listed in a separate cell, all the fridays results can be summed up together, etc.

also it wouldnt hurt if there was an easy way for excel to figure out which day of the week a date i put in is in the "date" column, and then spit out the day of the week "thursday", "friday", etc in the "day" column, but thats not really necessary. but would be nice nonetheless

thanks in advance for your help!
