HI there,

I have a spreadsheet comparing sales from one year to the next and I need a formula that will show the percentage of increase or decrease between the two. Can anyone help with this? Let me know if I need to clarify this a bit more. I'm self taught on Excel and do pretty well, but I'm missing some basic knowledge. Thank you!

Andrea

Welcome to the board.
Assumed that Column A & B contains sales of two years.
The in cell C1 enter the formula =a1/b1, and format cell C1 to show % (Format>Cells>Category>Percentage)
The more details posted the better answer you will get.
So post more details if needed.

Hi Andrea, and welcome to Mr Excel!

Assuming last year's sales in A1, and this year's in B1, then this formula in C1:

= IF(A1>B1,ROUND((A1-B1)*100/A1,2) & "% increase in sales", ROUND((B1-A1)*100/A1,2) & "% decrease in sales")

........should produce the desired results.

Let us know.........
