Hello Smart People,
I have been working on this all day and it is driving me crazy. I have found tons of answers but none of them fit my situation. I have two worksheets. The first work sheet contains a list of people and the classes they have completed. Example

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 144pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=192 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" span=3 width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl69 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64 height=17>Name</TD><TD class=xl69 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64>Class</TD><TD class=xl69 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64>Date</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>John</TD><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent">Math</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40183">1/5/2010</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Joe</TD><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent">English</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40219">2/10/2010</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Jim</TD><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent">Math</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40224">2/15/2010</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>John</TD><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent">English</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40252">3/15/2010</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

On worksheet 2, I want to be able to select a name from a drop down list and then have a vlookup that returns a list of the classes that person has taken. Example

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 96pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=128 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" span=2 width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl69 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64 height=17>John</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64></TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Math</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40183">1/5/2010</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl68 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>English</TD><TD class=xl70 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num="40252">3/15/2010</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

John, would be selected and the list of classes would then populate.

Thanks so much for any info you can supply.

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
I think maybe you could do this if you knew the maximum possible output to sheet 2 beforehand, because you'd need a formula for every possible line. Is that likely to cause problems?

I also think you'd need to add data, possibly in the form of formulas, to your data sheet.

could do with a pivot table built off of first worksheet.

Put NAME in "Report Filter" (this is "Page Field" for Excel versions before XL 2007)

Put Class & Date both in Row Labels
Nothing in Column Labels or Values

Then use the Page Field/Report Filter as your drop down list.

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 107pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=142 border=0><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 64pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3626" width=85><COL style="WIDTH: 43pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2432" width=57><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; WIDTH: 64pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none" align=left width=85 height=17>Name</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; WIDTH: 43pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none" align=left width=57>John</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17></TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent"></TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; TEXT-DECORATION: none; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none" height=17></TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; TEXT-DECORATION: none; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none"></TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; TEXT-DECORATION: none; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none" align=left height=17>Class</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BACKGROUND: #dbe5f1; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; TEXT-DECORATION: none; mso-pattern: #DBE5F1 none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none" align=left>Date</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; TEXT-DECORATION: none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none" align=left height=17>English</TD><TD class=xl63 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right>3/15/2010</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; FONT-WEIGHT: 700; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; COLOR: black; BORDER-BOTTOM: #95b3d7 0.5pt solid; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; TEXT-DECORATION: none; text-underline-style: none; text-line-through: none" align=left height=17>Math</TD><TD class=xl63 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ffffff; BORDER-TOP: #ffffff; BORDER-LEFT: #ffffff; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ffffff; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right>1/5/2010</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Would NOT want any subtotals or Grand Total

I liked the sound of that, rallcorn, but I couldn't make it work using 2003 without it being an ugly mess.

I could have sworn I had done this type of thing in 2003, but if you say it doesn't work . . . I must be mistaken. Too bad because it works like a charm in XL2007!

I've struggled a little with pivots in 2007 but suspect that's because there's so much more you can do with them. If you've ever done much vb, you may notice the recorder puts down much different commands in each version, although 2003 code will work in 2007.

Trouble with 2003 is it leaves the data and column fields visible on the page.

Klasik - if you have 2007 try Rallcorn's solution, since mine's not as flexible.

In Xl07 it leave the "spots" for column/values, but since these aren't populated with anything - no problem.
