I am currently trying to create some sort of data base using excel and VBA. Is this a smart idea I must ask? I have 55 different models of product "A" that I need to forecast and control the inventory. My database won't really do any calculations cause all the data is manually entered. Would there be too much information (55 models x 12 months) with inventory and product information as well. Should I save the information to another workbook or to a notebook.dat file Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at Microsoft Access, which IS a true database program, where Excel is really a spreadsheet program that can be manipulated to act like a database program.

You might have to do a little learning up front, but it should be worth it.
