Just installed Excel 2007 on a new Windows 7 machine. it works fine but when I close the workbook, Excel is still running and I need to close it again. How do I close it once and done. I know about the shift-close but don't want to remember to hold shift each time i close a worksheet. Any other ideas?

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
How are you closing it?

In the top right hand corner, you should see two "x"s.
If you click on the very top one, it should close out of the workbook and Excel at the same time.
If you click on the one just below it, it will only close the workbook.

Thank you for your reply.

I actually am trying to close by clicking the upper X (to close both the workbook and application) but it closes only the workbook and not the application. i must click the same X again to close Excel.

Do you actually have two instances of Excel open at the time (should be able to tell by looking in your task bar)?

Shift + close or double-clicking the Office button (with a saved file) are the only ways I know of.
