Negative numbers

I'm using Excel 2007. I've lost the ability on my desktop to display negative numbers in parentheses. It used to work until a few days ago. The options have disappeared in the numbers and currency formats.

Excel 2007 on my laptop works fine in this regard. Have I changed an obscure setting somewhere?
