Feb this year my previous employer closed their site resulting in over 1,000 of us searching for new jobs.
After a few weeks I found work as a Temp.
Next week I start full time at my current employer due partly to the help I have received from the generous people here who have responded to my requests for help over the past 7 years.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone for their answers (and questions) which have all helped me to move from complete novice through to apprentice.

Kind regards
Bernard (y)

Now if anyone can find me a rear light lens for a 1975 Mitsubishi J26 Jeep that would be even more impressive

congrats

I was recently laid off on August 1st.

currently looking for work right now. My last day is October 1st and then I get 2 months severence and retention bonus package. Hoping I can land a job soon so that by october I'll have all that extra money from the package :) Not sure how they operate in the UK or if you were just basically told to find a job with no severence.

I did get a call for an interview next week. hopefully that turns out well.

Good luck with the interview.

here in UK at best we get a lump sum based on number of years service (my case), at worst we get nothing - in some cases people even have pay outstanding.

What worked for me was to contact all the agencies and local companies I could find.

I'm now working as a Health & Safety \ Quality Inspector which includes a bit of application development & training in Excel and Access.

It really depends how you go. I've been booted out of a job twice, once after a series of bad financial results when the whole of the senior finance team lost their job (talk about shooting the messanger - two years later went into administration anyway). This time I was told to get my belongings and go and took my three months pay in lieu of notice (which attracts no tax or NI) and found a new job within a week.

The new job lasted two years and one week (just into the redundancy period) when a new company took over. The b******s wouldn't let me go with my 3 months lieu money - I had to work - and I got redundancy of two weeks pay woo!

Temped for a couple of months and found a new job where I still am 3 and a half years later...

Getting "canned" is good thing sometimes. Anyway, I'm part time now on my way to retirement (-:

Ooo that's a difficult one... But, as I'm feeling a bit psychic I can tell you something about this particular car....

1. It was sold by Colt Car Co in Cirencester in 1981.
2. The engine is a 2.6 petrol "Astra" G54B.
3. The engine was made in Australia
4. The ex Director of parts at Mitsubishi UK once owned this very car.

Not bad eh?

Oh, the power of google...

absquatulation,

Apart from the engine being an ASTRON for your contribution you win a copy of yesterdays work schedulue.

Thanks for making me smile.

Thanks Invicta,

I specialise in useless help.

Although I'm not completely useless - I can be used as a bad example.
