I am new to the software so I will explain this the best I can. I am editing spreadsheets with 24 columns and like 9,000+ rows.

What I am trying to do is the following;
Column A is work order #s
Column B is companies

I am trying to see which work order #s are missing a certain company in Column B. How would I go about doing this?

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Welcome to MrExcel.

Can you clarify the following-

1. when you say spreadsheets.. is that multiple files (workbooks) or multiple worksheets? Are the sheets in the same workbook?
2. in Col B- are you trying to find where no data exists or wrong data exists?
3. do you want a formula or VBA solution?

Can you post (using the table tool under "Go Advanced" in bottom RHS of the reply box) a brief version of your existing data and after the changes.

thanks,

ddiaz6789,

Welcome to the MrExcel forum.

1. What version of Excel and Windows are you using?

2. Are you using a PC or a Mac?

Can you post a screenshot of the actual raw data worksheet?

And, can you post a screenshot of the worksheet results (manually formatted by you) that you are looking for?

To post your data, you can download and install one of the following two programs:
1. MrExcel HTMLMaker20101230
https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=8cffdec0ce27e813&sc=documents&id=8CFFDEC0CE27E813!189

Installation instructions here:

2. Excel Jeanie
Download

If you are not able to give us screenshots:
You can upload your workbook to Box Net,
sensitive data changed
mark the workbook for sharing
and provide us with a link to your workbook.

1) It 1 file (1 workbook) with 1 spreadsheet with multiple columns and rows.
2) I am trying to find where a specific company (column B) is missing from work orders (column a)
3) any

The way its setup is

Column A Column B

WO123 Company1
WO123 Company2
WO123 Company3

^ that is work order 123 with 3 companies Im looking for the following error.

WO123 Company1
WO123 Company2

See how there is no company 3? I want to find all work orders missing a specific company. I am using Windows 7 if this helps.

How many work orders are there?

How many companies are associated with each work order? (eg 1, 5, 100, 10000 or only 3 companies/WO as per your example)

Do you have a list of all the company names you are looking for?

Can you give a few more examples of the range of situations you are looking at and how you want your results to look (eg a list of WO and (missing) company names, on a separate worksheet).

thx

theres is approximately 100 companies and only 3 can be assigned to each one.
I have a list of the names. All I want to see is the work orders not containing specific codes. Is this possible? Also could I do a bulk filter/search? Or can it only be one company at a time?

I think we can automate a lot of this but I am still unsure of some of the specifics. Can you tell me if I have this right...

1. you have work orders in one column and company codes in another.
2. a workorder can only have 3 companies attached.
3. if a w/o has 3 companies attached - it is OK.

4. If a w/o has 2 or less companies attached, you want to know-

a. which work order only has 2 or less companies associated with it?
b. and/or which companies are not associated with the w/o?

So does the data look like-

w/o 111
Company A
W/o 111 is OK
w/o 111
Company B
w/o 111
Company C
w/o 122
Company D
w/o 122 missing 1 record
w/o 122
Company E
w/o 125
Company A
w/o 125 missing 2 records
w/o 126
Company A
w/o 126 missing 1 record
w/o 126
Company D
w/o 127
Company G
w/o missing 1 record
w/o 127
Company H

or

w/o 111
Company A
w/o 111 is OK
w/o 111
Company B
w/o 111
Company C
w/o 122
Company D
w/o 122
Company E
w/o 122
w/o 122 needs 1 company code
w/o 126
Company A
w/o 126
w/o 126 needs 2 company codes
w/o 126
w/o 126 needs 2 company codes
