new to formatting

Im currently trying to make a register and using conditional formatting to do this.
The condition refers to a cell so the colour and text match.
ie, type in holiday and it comes up with blue background and in bold.
Problem is it only allows 3 conditions and i need more. How do i do this?

Also is it possible to have it so instead of typing holiday, it could just be hol or similar and populate with the full word and background etc?

Sorry, i know its probably really simple but ive only just started using this due to a new job.

Firstly, welcome to the board!

The simplest way to do what you're asking is to go to:

Format=>Conditional Formatting and then ensure that the following fields are filled in:

Cell Value Is: Equal To: ="hol"

Then choose the background to be blue.

Unfortunately, you can't have more than 3 conditions using this method. You should be able to add more conditions to cells by using VB script, but this is obviously a little more complex.

So how would i do it using VB as i really do need more than 3.
Keeping in mind i still have my "L" plates on!

Hmmm,

If i do stick to 3 conditional formats how can i get it so just entering s will bring up the SICK(with red background), and the same for the others?

Also, i want to link it to another sheet witch will calculate all the times SICK or LATE appears and makes a running total.

How would i do this?
