Hi
many of you probably know a notorious error produced by xl saying that there is "Too many different cell formats". Microsoft explains that it's number (unique combinations of format properties for a cell as i managed to understand) must not exceed a quantity near to 4 000. Any idea, guys, how to figure out how many of them there is now in a given book?? i believe such utility would be very helpful for those dealing with large spreadsheet books.
big thnx in advance :)

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
If I understand correctly, you want to know how many number formats you have in the workbook. If this is correct then go here and click Free Utilities/Excel Utilities and then download the free utilities. Once you install this add-in, you have the option under Utilities/Sheet Utilities/List Number Formats in Use.

Hi Seti!

This is not exactly what i'am looking for. Microsoft defines it as follows:
"This problem occurs when the workbook contains more than approximately 4,000 different combinations of cell formats. A combination is defined as a unique set of formatting elements that are applied to a cell."

see for details:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;213904

i think of finding a way to count the number of such combinations in my book and thus to understand if i'am close to the set limit ;)
