normalize a fiel

I have a uniquie field, and I want to normalize it or set it as unique to speed up queery that I run on it. How do I do this? I thought I just need to turn on normaliztion or uniqe attribute, but I cannot find steps anywhere.

Any help is greatly apprecialted

If I understand what you are asking, go into the Table that holds this field, and change to Design View. Click the field name, and update the "Indexed" property on the General tab to "Yes (No Duplicates)"

It was the indexing step that I wanted to do.
Yes I was using normaliztion incorrectly, and searching on that. Many thanks to both of you.
