Hi Folks

Column A has operator initials

Column B has task


small example from a large spreadsheet

Initials Task

BT sander
HA lathe
HA lathe
BT miller
HA miller

In cell C1 I want to know how many times "HA" has been on the "lathe"

Any help would be appreciated

Try:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A2:A6="HA"),--(B2:B6="lathe"))

If you have Excel 2007 or above you can use the COUNTIFS function.
